This is the day I've been waiting for!

It finally snowed! It started snowing around noon today and its still going!  The weather here is absolutely nuts. Yesterday it was 60 degrees and sunny and today it was 18 degrees and snowy! The snowflakes were super tiny so it was nearly dark by the time it started to build up on the ground. But it was a great opportunity to take some night snow photos. I love taking pictures at night, they always come out so interesting.

I took a few pictures in my yard, then I ran up the street to my mom's house because she has a lot of neat stuff in her yard to photograph. You can check out her blog here.

The roads got completely covered! Getting to work tomorrow should be interesting..

I've always loved snow so much. When I was little I would stay outside in the snow as long as possible, building snowmen, snow forts or just exploring the frozen landscape.  My favorite was when my mom would do laundry when it was snowing, because that meant I could warm myself by the dryer vent outside and I could stay out longer.

It's not suposed to get above freezing tomorrow so I should be able to get some more photos before it melts. But for now, I'm going to drink some hot cocoa and sit in front of the fire. I sure love snow days!

Our living room- Before and after!

We finally got our living room finished!  (Well except for hanging a few pictures) I thought I would share a few photos of how far its come since we first moved in.

This is how it looked when we first moved in. Anytime we'd have guests over they would look at that stripe and say something along the lines of "Oh.. That's a very... unique.. design!" Then we would hastily tell them we didn't put it there and would be painting over it. The thing that gets me is those colors that they chose.. Maybe its just me, but I just feel like that is the most bizarre color combination I have ever seen.  Also, you can't tell from these photos, but the main wall color wasn't white, it was this very light pinkish peach color. It was actually kind of sickening to look at.
All that furniture was hand-me downs and I'm pretty sure my dad found that side table in the trash, and insisted we take it because it was a good quality table. (The cats broke a leg off a few months later!)

And here's what it looks like now! We always knew we wanted a bookshelf wall, and Ikea is great for designing bookshelves and entertainment systems. We're pretty big Ikea fans actually.. We pretty much live in an Ikea showroom. But you know what? I don't even care!  Ikea showrooms are awesome!

Here is the other side of the room after we rearranged a little bit, and painted over the skin colored walls..

And here it is now!  I looove that shag rug so much. It's so comfy.

Here is the other side of the living room. We are planning on hanging a bunch of pictures on that empty wall. And that painting my husband did will eventually go in our dining room.

Here are some in progress shots and my preposterous representation of a TV.

I am sooo excited to finally have my dream living room! It took a long time to get it all fixed up. It had a messed up popcorn ceiling with water damage, plenty of cracks in the walls and I was embarrassed to let people see it. We used to never spend any time in there, and now we basically live in there. (Haha! get it?!) Ehhhh.

Luffas!

I recently discovered this website, about how to grow your own Luffas!  I always thought that Luffas were made from some sort of sea sponge, but apparently they're actually a type of gourd and easy to grow in your garden!  Upon finding this out, I just knew I had to try growing them this year and I am already imaging where I can plant them. I am thinking about putting a little picket fence around my vegetable garden, and I think my Luffa plant will look great growing along it.

Here are some photos I found online of some luffa plants.

Luffa plant in all its glory!

When the plants mature and dry out, you just peel them and the Luffa is inside!

This is how I imagine my Luffa garden will look like.

These Luffa soaps are so pretty!

Well, I didn't think it was possible, but I am now more excited about my vegetable garden then ever!  I really hope it warms up soon so I can start digging.  I can't wait to blog about my growing garden!

Current Inspirations- Craft Rooms!

I never thought I was the kind of person to have a craft room. When we first moved into our house and were trying to think of what we'd  do with the extra rooms, one of my friends suggested should turn one into a craft room. I thought it was a silly idea, I didn't do crafts.  That was until one day I felt like I just HAD to create something. And what started as just gifts for my mom and sister, eventually turned into my etsy shop which led me to really want a cute little craft room. Or at least something better than what I have right now. So I thought I would share a few photos I've collected for inspiration.

I really like the idea of long narrow countertops like this. Plenty of room for doing multiple projects at once!

I love this yellow chair! And that simple desk is perfect.

Sitting in front of a nice big window is definitely a must have!

I love those little storage shelves above the desk.

Love all of these drawers and shelves!

This little craft nook is so adorable!  Probably too small for me though.

And now.. Just for comparison.. A few pictures of my current "craft room".

My desk/thing we put stuff on that doesn't have a place..

My craft supplies. (Note that I have to barricade the closet door so the cats don't get in there and trash it!)

I can't believe the very first pictures of my house I'm showing is of my sad little craft room. I promise the rest of my house is a lot better looking!

My resin jewelry!

I'm so excited about my resin jewelry! I've always thought resin was neat, and I just wanted to encase everything I could in resin. I had no idea what I would do with it, but I wanted to do it anyway. I bought resin molds and supplies years ago, but never really got around to doing anything with it. But this year over the Christmas break from school, and then work, I started putting random things in resin with the vague idea that it could be jewelry. Most of it turned out looking preposterous. (Maybe I'll post some photos of my failed resin attempts sometime!) But then I came across these really cute bonsai stamps I had been saving until I found just the right thing to do with them. Well, I just found it. Resin stamp necklaces for me, my mom and my sister for Christmas! I was so excited that I just went for it, without practicing with other stamps first, and they ended up looking terrible. I was pretty bummed out, but that's when I got the idea to see if I could order more of them online, and I found that you can buy 100s of stamps for a couple bucks! And that's where I got my idea to make and sell necklaces, not only with stamps, but small versions of my photos, too.

I'm so glad I had the idea to start doing this, it's so much fun! Each little piece is unique and so pretty.

Here are photos of some of my favorite necklaces, plus one of me wearing the one I made myself.

I also make resin magnets and am going to start making coasters too, which I am super excited about!
All of these necklaces plus more can be found in my Etsy shop, so have a look!

Wishing for snow or warm weather

Its been very cold lately! Last night it got down to about 6 degrees F and normally it doesn't get down much past 20. I expected to freeze to death this morning on the long walk from the parking lot to my work, but I actually noticed that 6 degrees really doesn't feel much different to me than 30. So, that was kind of underwhelming.

Even though its been so cold, it still hasn't snowed! We haven't had a good snow since I got my new camera and I am dying to take some snow pictures! Here are a few I took with my old camera that actually aren't too bad looking.  Gahh. Looking at these makes me want some snow sooo bad!  I may have a mild obsession..

In other news, I ordered a bunch of vegetable seeds online because I was just way too excited to wait until the stores started stocking them! Yesterday my multi-colored carrots came!  I was hoping I would be able to start digging by now, but its been way to cold every day. If there's no snow on the ground then I just wish it would be warm!

Today I found this really cute journal at Michaels. It is made out of cork! I haven't decided what I'm going to use it for yet, a gardening journal maybe? And I kinda want to glue some stuff in there, maybe some flowers from my garden? Haha.

(Notice a blurry Jeeves peeking out from behind it, wondering what I am doing?)

Oh well, since I'm stuck inside I guess that means I should clean the house or something. :p

Goals for 2014

I can't believe its 2014! I know it always takes a while to get used to seeing a new year, but this is the first time I ever remember being truly shocked at the number. Just the other day I noticed that my debit card expires in 2016 and my first though was "Wow that's a long time from now! I'll be in my 30's by then!"  No.. It's actually two years away.... :|

Anyway, I thought that I would do a quick recap of 2013 and come up with a few goals I would like to accomplish in the year 2014. So, without further ado..

2013 was a pretty good year;

I got married.

I finally started working full time at my job. Now I actually have some idea of what's going on and I'm not completely lost anymore.

It took months, but we finally finished fixing up our living room and got it just the way we wanted it. ( I'll share some before and after photos sometime!)

And I finally had some free time since I only took a one credit hour class in the fall!
With my free time I decided I wanted to finally start making resin jewelry and open my own etsy shop! Which is something I had thought about doing for many years.

**My goals for 2014**

FINALLY be done with school! FOREVER. I have one class left to take and I graduate in May, I don't think I have ever been so fed up and tired of anything in my life. I completely dread going back there in a week. Okay okay, enough ranting

I am really looking forward to having my own vegetable garden, hopefully I will get lots of fresh veggies this year. I am also excited to expand my other gardens that I started last year and to get a tree for our front yard!

I am hoping to really get my etsy shop going and to to keep making lots of neat necklaces and taking lots of photos.

I want to start fixing up our house some more. Once we got some basic things finished and livable, we kinda got comfortable and slowed down on the renovations. For instance, there are some rooms that never got a second coat of paint! One of the things I would like to get done is to get a washer and dryer, but to do that we need to change some pipes and get a washer and dryer hookup inside the house. Instead of on the back porch like it is now....We also need to replace our windows and take off the aluminum siding and paint the house a pretty color. And also put a second coat on those walls ;)

I would like to start eating healthier. I don't eat too bad right now, but I would like to eat more fresh vegetables (Yay veggie garden!!) and less junk food.

Steven and I got some bikes two summers ago and rode them like crazy! Last year for whatever reason we only rode them a few times so this year I definitely want to ride them a lot more. Its so much fun and we discovered so many cool little places in our town.

And lastly, I want to try not to get stressed out about school and work anymore. I tend to really let certain things get to me and dive me crazy. I try to make my motto "Go with the flow". Things get crazy at work and I always handle it best when I just shrug and go along with it, knowing that I'll be at home soon enough with my husband, my cats and my garden. :)

I am high hopes for this year and I am excited to get started and blog about my adventures!
