This August...

Celebrated our five year anniversary with all the sushi you can imagine.

Got some film in the mail that I can't wait to use! I really want to start using film a lot more, but I am afraid of wasting film so I am always hesitant to use it.

Went to the beach and wanted to stay there forever.

Finally got to try Turkish Coffee while at the beach and loved it. So far I have yet to find a place near me that sells it.

Had the first pumpkin beer of the season and I can't wait to sample all the different varieties I can get my hands on.

Got a total of three gourds from my garden and probably won't get anymore. (Melon worms are an eviiiilll thing!)

Turned my Japanese Maple into three bonsais! More on this later..

I think I made the most of summer's last month. For once I am little sad to say goodbye to the warm weather, but I am definitely looking forward to autumn. I am excited to break out my fall outfits, wear gloves and scarves, and I can't wait to plan plenty of fall activities to make the most out of this glorious season!

Did everybody have a good August?

Weekly Journal #10

A pretty average week. The weather is getting cooler so I have been spending more time outside in the garden, getting ready for fall and planting things for next spring.

Morning Glory vines have begun to take over the front porch. At first it was cute, now it's starting to get scary.. Chester stands guard.

Making good use of my new agar at work. (Yay pink microbes!)

I attempted to sprout an avocado seed and it's working!  Looks a bit gross at the moment, but I am excited to see it grow.

So far I only have one luffa.. But I think he'll have enough time to finish growing before the frost comes.

I just can't seem to resist buying all the bulbs!

Cat Photos Friday #74- Luau Party

Since summer is coming to an end, the cats thought it would be nice to have a luau party.

They all wore matching leis, and had a pretty good time

Jeeves and Cloud even touched noses. They were immediately repulsed by this decision and I unfortunately did not capture their reactions.

What a good summer it has been!

What I Wore at the Beach

Most days we were at the beach, I lived in my bathing suit. But the times I wore actual clothes, I chose pastels and white because they seemed like the perfect beach colors.

The only time I really wear contacts is at the beach, and that means I can wear my beloved sunglasses! I probably have about ten pairs that are just sitting around collecting dust because I used to be a sunglasses fool back in the day, before my eyes went bad. This pair is one of my favorites.

Waves are really unpredictable.....

And that one got me bum all wet!

I wish I was back at the beach.

Weekly Journal #9

This week ended up being pretty okay. I dreaded going back to work after the beach trip; the past few weeks had been so discouraging I felt like I couldn't face it. But surprisingly enough things actually went well this week at work and I am hoping that continues!

I met a friend at a local pub for the first pumpkin beer of the year and it was wonderful!

While walking past a little shop in our neighborhood that recently fenced in their yard and filled it with junk cool items for sale, we noticed their latest addition. Goats. Two of them.  I find it particularly hilarious because one doesn't expect to see goats in somebody's furniture filled front yard in the middle of the city.

I got way over-excited when I saw these bulbs at Walmart. I can't wait to see them bloom next spring!

The cows were out when we drove past on our way to go biking, so we pulled over and said hi to them for a couple minutes. Another case of farm animals in the middle of the city!

Sand Dollar Island

While we were at the beach, we took a trip to one of my favorite places. Sand Dollar Island!

You can only get to Sand Dollar Island by ferry, so we headed down to the docks to catch a ride over.

It is actually more of a giant sand bar then an island, and it is only accessible during low tide because it can get completely submerged during high tide!

The ferry drops you off on this deserted island and comes back about two hours later, after you've had plenty of time to scour the waters for Sand Dollar treasure.

The water surrounding  the island isn't very deep. Here I was kneeling on the bottom searching for the perfect Sand Dollars.

The live ones must be left on the island though to continue their little sand dollar lives.  I had never seen a live one before, which are the dark brown fuzzy ones. There are so many that if you reach down into the sand at any point, you are sure to grab one! Finding dead ones takes a little more luck, but they are usually plenty.

If you're lucky you may even find a lovely conch shell specimen!  I was so excited when I stumbled upon this guy, only to find that...
Somebody was still home! I plopped him back in the water and watched him inch along the sand. It is so neat to see a living conch.

The view here is so pretty; other smaller sand bars stick out as a lovely golden among the bright blue water and then blend in with the cloudless sky. Sand Dollar Island is in the sound side, sandwiched between a few other islands so the waters are calm, and there are no big waves to worry about.

When we come to Sand Dollar Island, I never want to leave!

Cat Photos Friday #73- Left Again

Cloud got very concerned the second she suspected we may be leaving and she would be stuck with just the boys for a week.

Once they spot the suitcase, they know something is up.

They try to find ways to sneak along in our luggage. Or our shoes!

But in the end I think they would greatly regret sneaking along in our luggage and getting stuck in a car for four hours, and then having to stay inside a tiny hotel room.  I do get the urge to take them with me though, it would be silly to see how they react to a strange new environment!
